The laboratory of navigation and geodetic support of hydroacoustic monitoring equipment (NGOSGM) was established in 2015 and is the youngest structural subdivision of SRBA MR FEB RAS. The necessity to create a laboratory for NGOSMM was caused by a significant increase in the volumes and directions of scientific and technical activities carried out by SRBA MR. The laboratory is focused on carrying out scientific research in the field of navigation and geodesy, solving applied technical problems when creating experimental models of marine equipment, navigational and geodetic support for full-scale marine tests of equipment samples, hydroacoustic and hydrophysical monitoring. Scientific research in the field of navigation and geodesy is mainly focused on the theory and methodology of using hydroacoustic navigation systems – creation of bottom geodetic networks, estimation of coordinates of its points, determination of coordinates of surface and underwater technical means by hydroacoustic trilateration, equalization of underwater geodetic structures. Studies are performed within the framework of the radial theory of hydroacoustics, taking into account errors in the initial data.

Within the framework of solving applied problems in the development of experimental models of marine equipment, questions are being developed on the use of software and hardware systems for carrying out engineering research installed on autonomous media developed and created in the SRBA MR, followed by direct research, processing and presentation of their results.

The provision of marine full-scale tests and monitoring is to determine the coordinates of the tested surface and underwater technical facilities, as well as to observe and document the hydrophysical state of the sea surface. The task is solved using a set of software and hardware, including: a high – resolution mobile radar with an electronic mapping module, GNSS systems, a long – base sonar navigation system, an ADCP flow measurement system, a multi – beam bathymetric imaging system, Software for data collection, processing and presentation.
